In the Market, Hoi An, Viet Nam (Kitty Wright)

Having spent one career teaching government and politics (see Biography), I have been a full-time professional photographer since the autumn of 2005 and, in creating this showcase, my objectives are not only to promote my own work but to provide a resource for the pooling of information.  I place part of my commercial income into a resource pool which I use to fund work for NGOs and aid organisations. I am always interested in new commissions and projects, in freelance assignments and in the ideas and work of other photographers.

My travel and documentary work encompasses several overlapping areas:

  • Photographic workshops and holidays, many in conjunction with Australian travel company, Intrepid. In 2010-2011 I have trips to:
  • Nepal
  • India
  • Nepal and India Combined
  • Cuba West, Cuba East, Cuba East and West
  • Viet Nam, Cambodia and Laos - four separate trips or combined
  • Turkey
  • Documentary photography for NGOs like VSO and special projects such as my involvement in the Images for Life project based in Aida Camp, Bethelehem.
  • Freelance photo-essay and stock photography projects such as my Street Photography Nepal (March 2006) and a month-long  expedition to Cuba (January-February 2007). Typical selections of Cuban images can be seen in A Gallery of Cuban Images Part 1 and Part 2 and A Gallery of Cuban Street Photography Part 1 and Part 2. My ARPS Associateship of the Royal Photographic Society  was awared for a panel of images of Nepal.
  • Images reflecting my own travel experiences, including over 30 trips as an expedition leader -  one of my current activities is leading study tours to the USA. With a background in the teaching of modern history and politics, I am particularly interested in developmental issues and was recently awarded an Associateship of the Royal Photographic Society for a panel of my street photographs in Bhaktapur and Pathan, Nepal.
  • Producing a comprehensive Guide to Photography  has become a major project and this draws from the whole range of my work and other contributing photographers. The members of the thriving Exeter Camera Club are both a resource and a target for this Guide,  as are participants in my workshops. Photo Stories  gives the background to a selection of images.
