Backstreet, Havana

The streets in old Havana – just a short distance from the tourist area but in other ways a million miles away, provide fantastic photographic opportunities – if you are prepared to spend time and ‘work’ the friendly locals.

This wide-angle shot captures the atmosphere of the streets, the beautiful bright light, deep shade, the run-down but elegant colonial buildings. The dog – of course – helps provide a sense of depth together with the converging oblique lines of the street.

Technical Details: Canon 1Ds mark ii; 24-70 f2.8 L lens; iso250; f20; 1/80th second.
