Girls on a Bus, Havana
While photographing in the streets of Havana, a bus drew up at a set of traffic lights nearby. Two teenage girls were naturally framed in an open window. (Image 1). We caught each others eye and had a nice exchange of waves and smiles (Images 2 and 3) before the girls turned back, amused, to their journey. It is difficult to chose between Images 1 and 2 as a final cut, in fact, they are quite different images. The former has a fly-on-the-wall quality and the wider perspective produces a layered image (look for the other passengers and the general air of weariness we all know from public transport) whereas the second is an 'engaged' portrait - capturing a moment of fleeting friendship. Images 3 and 4 are not so strong largely because of the position and expression of the second girl.
