Introductory Outline
Each trip is a cultural adventure – reaching deep into the real heart of each country and area visited - rather than being a more traditional ‘workshop’. The itineraries are based on the experience of Intrepid of Australia – a world-renown and award winning travel company – and have been tweaked by Ian Wright to maximize both the experience and the photographic potential. The locations chosen are some of the most memorable areas of the world, providing fantastic subjects for developing your photographic skills. Each trip has a maximum of 12 travellers - whose common bond is a love of the kind of travel that pushes out the boundaries while minimizing the risks and hassle that can be involved in totally independent travel. No specific level of photographic skill or knowledge is required but the typical participant will possess a DSLR with a choice of at least a couple of lenses and have a reasonable working knowledge of the camera and basic principles of composition etc. Each trip has a slightly different balance - the structure is highly individualized and designed for photographers to learn on location and through practice. The expeditions attempt to provide a balance of photographic opportunities – from the chaos of the souks to the majesty of the desert and mountains; from ancient ruins to boat trips along historic waterways; from portaits of tobacco farmers in Cuba to photographing the fishing villages in Viet Nam – and travel icons like Angkor Wat and the Taj Mahal.. In addition to Ian – who provides the tuition – a country-based Intrepid guide accompanies each trip throughout and organizes the logistics. Each trip itinerary is described in both Brief Trip Outlines and comprehensive Trip Notes and two documents outline the basic structure of the photography experience on the trips and Ian’s approach to travel and documentary photography. These figures are based on 8 participants on each trip and reflect a maximum cost. Although 8 is strictly the smallest number to guarantee the trip, they may well run with 5 at my discretion. If there are 9-12 participants on each trip, discretionary benefits in kind or discount will be given to the photographers depending on prevailing circumstances such as currency comparisons. - once this occurs I will re-calculate pricing to the clients benefit. While every effort is made to ensure that details of itineraries are acurate and comprehensive, the nature of the trips means that issues beyond our control can occur and the itineraries are therefore subject to reasonable changes in accordance with the context. A number of the trips are combinations of two trips that are available as stand-alone itineraries. So Laos/Cambodia and Vietnam can be booked as individual trips or combined - the same applies to to two Cuba trips. Combination trips have some financial advantages for travellers.
